21 February 2025 Design Trends for Senior Living and Beyond

Posted at 4:23 PM

For 2025, we’re envisioning a lively blend of influences, from the revival of elegant curves to rich, immersive colors, with styles ranging from timeless European elegance to a more casual laid-back mountain vibe. Here are a few standout trends we’re excited about.

1. Graceful Forms

We’re seeing a resurgence of soft, flowing forms and an overarching sense of elegance influencing a variety of design styles—from lavish and ornate to sleek and modern. This subtle romanticism brings a refined luxury with a softer, more inviting touch. A perfect example is this cozy library nook at one of our recently completed MorningStar projects, designed to feel like a serene sanctuary—welcoming residents to unwind with a cup of coffee and their favorite book.

2. Pattern Playground

Senior Living design trends are embracing a bold and playful approach in 2025, with patterns taking center stage. One trend we’re particularly excited about is the art of layering patterns throughout interiors to add depth and personality. Since traditional area rugs are a no-go in Senior Living due to trip hazards, we love incorporating patterned tiles or carpet insets into other flooring materials to achieve the look and feel of a patterned area rug—without compromising safety.

Take a look at how the patterned floor tile inset becomes the focal point of the Private Dining Room at Belmont Village in Los Gatos, California, adding a touch of elegance and visual interest to the space.

3. Monochrome Mastery

Monochrome and tone-on-tone color palettes have been a staple in the fashion world, and residential design and we’re thrilled to see this trend making its way into Senior Living with such sophistication. The beauty of this approach lies in its ability to create a cohesive yet dramatic look, layering varying shades and textures of a single hue to craft a space that feels both harmonious and bold. In this image, the deep forest green walls paired with a plush velvet sofa embody the monochrome theme to perfection, wrapping the room in a luxurious, immersive ambiance.

4. Velvety Shades

Traditionally, Senior Living design favored light and muted colors, which still hold their timeless charm. However, 2025 is all about embracing rich, jewel-like tones that command attention. Think deep forest greens, warm chocolate browns, and luxurious reds like oxblood, black cherry, merlot, and burgundy. These sumptuous hues are making a bold comeback in interior design, and we love seeing them used to envelop entire spaces with drama and depth. Don’t shy away from making a statement—bold colors and daring applications are leading the way this year.

Take a look at how we brought these colors to life in the stunning Club Room at The MorningStar at The Canyons project in Las Vegas!

5. Details that Dazzle

In 2025, we’re excited to hone in the finer details that truly elevate a space. We’re inspired by simple yet subtly ornate decorative elements—whether it’s the finishing touches on light fixtures, the intricate detailing of cabinet hardware, or bespoke cabinet accents. Thoughtful design choices, such as unique glass features or exquisitely detailed metal table edges, help curate a boutique, refined charm that enhances the character and sophistication of the community.
