6 February Creative Ceiling Designs That Make a Big Impact

Ceilings are often overlooked in interior design, but they offer a unique opportunity to elevate a space. With the right treatments, a ceiling can become a standout feature, adding depth, texture, and character to any room. In this blog, we’ll explore various design treatments that can transform your ceiling from an afterthought to a focal point. Whether you’re looking for subtle elegance or bold statements, there’s a treatment to suit every style and space.

Wallpaper Accents

One easy way to dress up a ceiling is with wallpaper. While typically used on walls, it adds drama and interest when applied horizontally. Wallpapers come in various colors, textures, and intricate patterns, offering a fresco-like effect without the time and cost.

Applied Molding

Historically, intricate ceilings were made with plaster by skilled tradesmen. Today, shallow applied moldings can achieve the same look and are installable by general contractors. This molding adds depth and evokes grandeur and sophistication.

Dropped Wood Soffits

Not all ceilings have the spatial allowances to go higher than the main ceiling. For these instances, doing the opposite and dropping the ceiling creates just as much interest. By cladding these soffits in a rich wood tone adds a natural element to the space.

Acoustic Ceiling Insets

A common problem in larger spaces like dining rooms or lobbies is the acoustic volume of the space. To help alleviate some of the noise pollution, there are acoustic products that help absorb the sound while being visually stimulating.

Coffered Ceiling Designs

When the ceiling heights allow it, one of the most impactful decorative ceilings is creating a coffer, complete with ambient lighting. To make the coffered ceiling even more visually dynamic, unique designs made out of gyp and painted either to match or contrast with the surrounding ceiling can be added.

Decorative Ceiling Tiles

In many commercial spaces, ceiling access to HVAC and Electrical is a common necessity- hence the invention of 2×2 ACT. While this type of ceiling can often feel more “institutional,” rotating the grid 45 degrees, or utilizing more decorative 2×2 tiles can freshen up an often boring ceiling feature.

Wood Beams

Wood Beams can serve as both a structural ceiling element, as well as a decorative element. Similarly to adding wrapped wood soffits to a space, wood beams can add interesting texture and pattern to an otherwise simple ceiling.
